The Library holds over 24,000 resources, both paper and electronic, to support the educational and recreational needs of the students at St Nicholas Catholic High School. These include: 

  • Fiction: The pupils are involved in the stock selection which ensures the purchase of up-to-date fiction to promote reading for pleasure to all levels of reading interest and ability. 
  • Non-Fiction: a comprehensive collection of Non-Fiction to support all areas of the curriculum and any extra-curricular interests. 
  • Graphic Novels, Comics and Manga 
  • A-Level journals 
  • Daily paper: The Times 
  • Access to the Times archive 
  • Sora Secondary Ebooks Now 
  • Laptops

We aim to:

  • Provide equitable access to resources 
  • Focus on Reading for Pleasure 
  • Support the educational goals and aspirations of the school and its students 
  • Provide appropriate information resources for teaching and learning 
  • Encourage independent learning and provide information literacy guidance

How students can get involved with the Library: 

  • All students are welcome to attend events such as World Book Day, author visits, Carnegie Shadowing, the Cheshire Schools’ Book Award and Book Club  
  • Avid readers may be selected to take part in the Cheshire School’s Book Quiz 
  • All students are invited to take part in stock selection to give them a sense of ownership over the Library and its resources 
  • Everyone can access the online cataloguing system to read, write and publish book reviews 
  • Students are invited each year to apply for Student Library Assistant positions
