COURSE REQUIREMENTS: 

GCSE Religious Studies Grade 4 or above. If not previously studied, GCSE English Language Grade 4 or above

WHAT IS THE COURSE CONTENT AND HOW WILL I BE EXAMINED?

YEAR 1
Philosophy of Religion – Ancient Philosophical influences, the nature of the soul, mind and body, arguments about the existence of God, religious experience, the problem of evil.
Religion and Ethics – Religious approaches, ethical theories, applied ethics.
Developments in Christian religious thought – Death and the afterlife, Jesus Christ, moral principles.

YEAR 2
Philosophy of Religion – Theological and philosophical developments, religious language.
Religion and Ethics – Meta-ethics, the conscience, sexual ethics, developments in ethical thought.
Developments in Christian religious thought – Christianity in society, liberation theology.

Students will sit three, two hour exams at the end of Year 2. Throughout the year, students will be monitored closely and their progress will be tracked through timed essays, internal exams and homework. Students are expected to read independently on a regular basis.
